About HED
Functions
The Higher Education Department has administrative and financial control of the multi-tier higher education sector of the province. It manages public colleges in all districts and supervises the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education and public and private sector universities.
Mandate under the Rules of Business, 1974
- 01College education general (post-Matriculation to post-graduate level)
- 02Universities and university education, excluding Agricultural University, Faisalabad
- 03Coordination of schemes for higher studies abroad
- 04Grant of scholarships
- 05Promotion of scientific research
- 06Organization of all public libraries, including municipal and other libraries, and liaison with universities, colleges and special libraries
- 07Ancient manuscripts and historical records
- 08Promotion of sports
- 09Service matters except those entrusted to the Services and General Administration Department and the Information Department
- 10Purchase of stores and capital goods for the department
- 11Improvement of scientific, technological and professional education
